Since I am more or less the only one interested in the marketing aspect of this thing, I propose myself as marketing director. Someone else will be technical director; we'd also need a legal director for the signing of the contracts etc. I was never interested in sales nor marketing -- I am more interested in the creation aspect -- but everyone who knows me well says I'd be an incredibly good salesman. And I agree... I did sell software in Montreal for a couple of months back in 1988... A TCL programmer does not have to do the marketing effort if he does not want to. In fact, another approach could be to approach students in marketing at universities and to tell them about our project. I know one personally in France and since he is a dynamic go-getter I know he'd be interested. Some students could write a thesis on our marketing model... This sort of games combo is not at all hard to sell... I'll start contacting eventual buyers in Canada as early as next Monday and I'll post my results here. '''Anyone interested in doing the same in his country/region can do it...''' Just leave your name on the list on the top of this page''' Pessimists will say: "yes but what happens if we cannot get a CD together we will have worked for nothing." Not at all. There is no such thing as working for nothing. Eventually this marketing info can be very useful if not to us then to someone else. ----- '''Proceeds and Cafepress''' [MAK] - I fail to see the point. First, I would expect all proceeds to go towards supporting [The Tcler's Wiki], http://www.tcl.tk/, or [Tcl Marketing] -- not lining an individual's pockets. Second, you just publish via www.cafepress.com or similar, and they take care of the store front, the orders, the production and the shipping (including internationally). [Robert Abitbol] For your first point -- proceeds -- , we are not there yet. We are at task # one: Marketing feasibility study... One thing at a time... For your second, I'll study the cafepress approach. Although I am personally extremely pessimistic about internet as an efficient distribution tool. I much prefer the old distribution channels who do a much better job. [MAK] - You may believe so, but you have already proposed a business model: one in which individuals market CDs on a regional basis. A marketing feasibility study answers three basic, overriding questions: "is it possible to produce and bring to market," "what's the overhead," and "is the market large enough to cover the overhead." And pretty much in that order. You're already on "is the market large enough to cover the overhead," having assumed a business model with the most overhead rather than one with zero. Cafepress is no more an internet distribution tool than amazon.com. It's a company that specializes in custom printed stuff - shirts, CDs, books, posters, mouse pads, coffee mugs, etc. It's not a buy-and-download thing, which is usually what is meant by "internet distribution". ----- '''Re: the business model used; CafePress''' [Robert Abitbol] I agree with you (for once). I am sure I did not follow the marketing feasability procedure canon and this for a simple reason: once a program has been written, the overhead is extremely small: it costs a CD (20 cents), a box (5 cents) + a CD packaging. We are not selling an item that costs much to produce so there are great profits. That explains why Bill Gates has become the richest man in the world! I also agree with your definition of the business model I propose. You put it in the right words: '''one in which individuals market CDs on a regional basis''' to which I'll add: "using a wiki as a means to manage and follow-up on the project". I believe this has never been attempted before. It is such a big novelty that I am sure we can consequently get a lot of free publicity... I like this idea of uniting our forces to reach a common goal. Now am I optimistic that others on WikiT will join in this effort? Honestly no. '''People on wikis and on internet in general are very very hard to awake.. They seem to be hypnotized, dazzled by the machine'''. But I don't care. I'll do it by myself if I have to... I'll market the CD in Canada and Northern US. And finally about Cafepress, I checked it out a few minutes ago and we certainly could send them a few copies to sell if that is the right way to do it. There are all sorts of channels we can use to sell the CD; CafePress, Amazon and E-Bay could be three more channels. ----- '''The ... in the title''' What's with the "The"? Why isn't this page "Tcl/Tk Games..."? -- [CLN] ''Indeed Chris. Let's change it once more.. (I hope JC does not have a transcontinental missile aimed at me in Canada. I have been doing so many change titles lately! :-)) -- [Robert Abitbol] ---- [Category Games], [Category Community]
